Erect single lance-shaped, channelled, fleshy leaf, often reddish base to 30cm x 10mm, sheathing at base of stem; 2-3 sheathing stem bracts.
Perennial herb with fleshy egg-shaped tubers. Plants are not clump-forming but form massed displays.
2-10 light to deep blue raceme flowers, occassionally white, pink or mauve, to 35mm across. Column erect with hooded dark brown post-anther lobe, shallowly notched and with a yellow tip. Column arms pointing forward, densely tufted with short white or occasionally pink hairs.
